To ensure your food safety, preserve the small family farm, and reduce your impact on the environment!

These are our onetime laying hens that have given good service in the egg department. Once standard fare in grandmother’s kitchen, a stewing hen is used to produce the most flavorful stocks, delicious dumplings, and fabulous fricasses.

USDA Certified Organic status if very costly for small family farms due to high registration fees and paperwork requirements.

All our cuts are bone-in to provide you with the most nutritions products possible. Roasts, steaks, chops, and poultry with bones and a small amount of naturally occurring fat are whole foods and provide the most flavor and nutrition.

If you are unsure of how to cook a certain cut, please ask. We will be happy to provide you with recipes and cooking information.

Grass-fed animals heal the environment. Fewer fossil fuels are used in their production. Grass-fed animals are happier and healthier. They are less stressed, more disease resistant, and have more freedom than their conventionally farmed counterparts.

Grass-fed meats are healthier. They contain more Omega-3 Fatty Acids, cancer-fighting Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA) and antioxidant vitamins. Grass-fed meats are less likely to carry virulent E.coli 0157:H7 than conventionally raised animals.

And the bottom line: grass-fed meats taste better!

Fall is here, which means that Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner.  River Ridge Farms is again offering turkeys raised on pasture with 100% organic feed.  These turkeys, unlike the ones in the supermarket freezer, not only have spent most of their life outside, but also were never given antibiotics, growth stimulants, or kept in over-crowded conditions.  While they are given an organic feed ration, our birds are also able to forage in their enclosure, eating a diverse salad of greens along with some insects.  We move them about every three days, so that they are always getting fresh, new ground.

Bronze-Breasted Turkeys

Two different varieties of turkey are available: the bronze-breasted (shown in photo) and the whites.  The biggest difference between these two breeds is the relatively smaller size of the latter.  Both sets of birds are very active, in fact, the electro-net fencing seen in the photo really only serves as a deterrent to predators– almost every day at some point a large number of turkeys decide to fly outside the enclosure.

Customers who order their turkeys at least a month in advance of Thanksgiving will receive a 10% discount off the price of their bird.  Call the farm (423-334-5643) to reserve yours today!
